MATSUDA (Kiichi).— THE RELATIONS BETWEEN PORTUGAL AND JAPAN. Junta de Investigação do Ultramar and Centro de Estudos Históricos Ultramarinos. Lisboa. 1965. 13,5x18,5 cm. 107-III págs. B.

“The relations between Portugal and Japan began in 1542 or 1543 when three Portuguese sailors were cast ashore on the Island of Tanegashima. Once the island had become Known to the Portuguese, their traders and missionaries began to visit Japan and eventually to exert their influence on Japonese civilisation. (...) I shall divide this book into two parts: the first will give an outline of the relations between Japan and Portugal and the reason why Japan closed her ports to foreign countries; the second part will deal with Portugal’s influence on Japan (...)”.— retirado do Prefácio.
